The creation of the strategy model is an integral part of the overall strategy creation process as shown in the diagram. It works specifically on identifying the key issues and actions as well as outcomes, goals and objectives from the information captured earlier in the strategy development process.
The fact that all of these elements are interlinked mans that the identification of the key aspects of the emerging strategy is critical to the overall strategy development process as it informs and, to some extent, influences the direction in which the overall business strategy is developed.
The process of building the strategy model, reviewing it with the group, modifying it and refining it we essentially create a consensus on the way forward for the business as well as identifying the key drivers – the activities that need to be done to move the business from where it is to where the group wants it to be.
While this model may look simple, it provides a very useful structure when creating the business strategy and building strategic plans.
We use this model when analysing the information that is captured during the strategic interviews. This information is often very complex and analysing it is a difficult process. Using this structure helps to identify the elements that fits with each of the categories shown in this strategy model.
The model can also be used to work on the business strategy with participants in the process in order to help them understand the structure and to develop their ideas into a coherent strategic plan.
